We love our portfolio companies! The amazing founders, the ground-breaking ideas, the constant pushing of limits—it’s all very inspiring. We decided to bring all these people together for a long weekend of sharing ideas, building relationships and basically just getting to know each other while also having a lot of fun.

Thus came into being our very first Annual Anthemis Strategic Retreat, in July 2012. Or as we lovingly call it: #HackingFinance, 2012.

Set in the heart of the French Alps, in Meribel, we hoped the great mountains would work their magic and inspire big thinking, big love—the lack of network coverage would obviously help!

The Retreat, in a way, laid the foundations of our ecosystem: a safe, secure and supportive environment that enables our founders to do their best work, leverage the network and collaborate in building a new financial landscape.

Sean couldn’t have put it better when he said, “There’s nothing that replaces human connection”.
