In the summer of 2014, British Chancellor George Osborne vowed:
“The government is determined to drive increased competition in the banking market, so that banks, alternative providers and fintech firms compete vigorously, on a level playing field, to win and retain customers.”
To this end, the UK government’s Chief Scientific Advisor, Sir Mark Walport, commissioned a report setting out a plan to make the UK the world’s fintech capital. With Anthemis Group as an advisor, the paper ‘FinTech Futures – The UK as a World Leader in Financial Technologies’ investigates the enablers and barriers shaping the fintech sector over the next 10 years.
