Cariqa

Anthemis is proud to announce our continued support of Cariqa, participating in the company’s €4 million Seed round co-led by our recently closed third early-stage fund and Contrarian, a European climate tech venture fund. This marks the second time an Anthemis fund has backed Cariqa, following our pre-seed investment through the Anthemis Female Innovator Lab Fund, who also joined this latest round.

As of early 2025, over 2.2 million electrified vehicles have been registered across Europe, with EVs making up roughly 25% of new car sales. And, Europe’s EV charging station market is projected to grow at a ~29% CAGR, reaching $145 billion by 2034. While the continent has 1 million+ public charging points, a 35% year-on-year increase, the infrastructure remains fragmented and demand volatile.

Enter: Cariqa. Cariqa is building the first payment orchestration layer purpose-built for EV charging, with its initial focus on enabling seamless, scalable payments for charging point operators (CPOs). As the EV ecosystem accelerates, this financial infrastructure is becoming essential.

The timing couldn’t be more compelling:

Cariqa’s mission to bring cohesion, efficiency, and scale to a critical but underserved layer of the EV value chain is enabling CPOs to streamline and optimize payments.

“We’re incredibly excited to back this highly capable and technical team that’s quietly been building for the past three years,” said Marin Cauvas, Partner at Anthemis. “As EV adoption hits an inflection point, timing is finally on their side, and we believe our experience in scaling payment infrastructure businesses can be a powerful catalyst for Cariqa’s next chapter.”

Our original thesis for investing in the company remains as strong as ever. For a deeper look at our early conviction, learn more at  “Why We Invested in Cariqa”. What has changed is Cariqa’s traction and market confirmation, both of which reaffirm our confidence in the company’s trajectory and exceptional team.

“Over the past year we have had a front row seat to Cariqa’s evolution and have continued to be impressed by the team’s execution, drive, and clarity of vision,” said Elizabeth Davis, Partner at the Anthemis Female Innovators Lab Fund. “We’re proud to continue to support the team as they build a more connected & scalable future for EV charging and infrastructure.”

We are excited to be co-leading this round with Contrarian, whose commitment to climate innovation brings deep sector alignment. This renewed backing underscores our belief that Cariqa is positioned to become foundational infrastructure in a fast-scaling EV future.
